Susan Glasier - Author of Bend Like The WillowSusan Glasier

Susan Glasier was born in the United States. When she was growing up, her family lived wherever her father, who was connected to the US military, was stationed.

Her family settled in Arizona in 1958. Susan attended the University of Arizona in 1962 immediately after graduating from high school. She met Mohamed Chaabane, a foreign exchange student from Algeria, and by the end of her first year, she and Moe had married. They had two children and in early 1966, when Moe finished his studies, the family moved to Birtouta, Algeria, a small Moslem village, 36 miles south of Algiers. Bend Like the Willow is a memoir of their six-year marriage.

Upon returning to the U.S. from Algeria, Susan finished her degree in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Arizona in 1970, and emigrated to Canada in 1972 with her second husband and three children. She worked at Olds College as an instructor and curriculum developer in Olds, Alberta for twenty years. She received a Master of Education Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Alberta in 1982. She ran her own business for two years, and then worked as an executive assistant for the Prairie Turf Grass Research Centre at Olds College for six years before retiring in 2006. She is a member of the Writers Guild of Alberta.

She remarried in 1990 and lives in Red Deer, Alberta.
